Starting Home

On Monday we left Sarasota, driving north to Tallahassee, then to Tuscaloosa (technically, Vance, Alabama), and from there to land Wednesday night in Little Rock. At about 2:00 PM on Wednesday we crossed the Mississippi, so we are back west of the Mississippi and it feels like we are out of the South for the first time in more than six weeks.

At some point I will try to make some sense of our response to the South. Many have tried to understand the region, so I have no expectation of any success in that regard. But, I’ll give it a shot.

Essentially, we are on our way home, with one three and a half day stop to tour the Ozarks starting Thursday.

So, not many images. Tomorrow should be another story entirely.

At our hotel Wednesday morning. I could not resist the juxtaposition, the clapped out stock car and in the background, "the world's finest cars"

A last look at the lush growth of the south under gray, spattery skies
