Fern Canyon at Daybreak
It has been a while since I have blogged anything, let alone travel. But it is July 2024, and we are going through the California/Oregon Coast on our way to our annual Shakespeare pilgrimage in Ashland, Oregon, a gathering of a few friends and family. July 11was our first full day in Mendocino. One of my favorite walks, the trail through Fern Canyon in Van Damme State Park, has been closed due to storm damage for the last couple of years, so I decided to walk through there at daybreak. The canyon is hard to photograph decently and I can’t say I totally succeeded to catch the mystical green light there, but here’s what I did do. A few of the later images capture some of the more spectacular damage that the winters of 2021-22 and 2022-23 did here.
