We spent Wednesday in a leisurely meander up the Virginia
Peninsula from Newport News to Reston, Virginia, where we are staying for the
next four days.
On the way we saw signs for the birthplace of George
Washington. Who could resist that? So off we went.
Well, The Park Service did a fine job with what they had,
which was a reimagining of the ancestral home that was built in the 1930s, an
outline of the actual birthplace, which, they discovered was nothing like the
1930 version, and a farm. It made for a nice little stroll in the middle of our
day after which we went to Fredericksburg for lunch and thence to Reston.
Thursday will be the Mall and Smithsonian museums.
