Into the Appalachians




On Wednesday, we covered just over three hundred miles between Birmingham, Alabama and Gatlinburg, Tennessee, mostly along backroads, particularly after we came into the Blue Ridge, Appalachian, and  Great Smoky mountains.

It was, to be honest, a relief to put behind us the fraught history of the Mississippi Delta and Alabama and to be out in nature’s wonder.

The Ococee Dam I, part of the Tennessee River Valley Authority's system of mixed use dams. They attempt to be a major force in the region.
