From Santa Fe to Mesa Verde

Or Pueblo ruins up close and personal

A couple more quiet days in Santa Fe and on Friday we departed, headed to Mesa Verde. What previouslywe saw from across the canyons here we will be seeing up close.

We covered the 300 miles in fairly good time, keeping, for the most part, within 20 mph of the speed limits and got here around 4:00, just in time to get a quick taste of what we have in store for the next couple of days before we depart this part of the country for something more authentically "western."

Even so, we noted when we stopped for lunch in Aztec, NM, that the culture had become more cowboy and less indian.

Here, though, we are at the  starting point for the Pueblo peoples, most of whom trace their starting point to Mesa Verde and the migration that began  after 1300AD.
